 String Recording

Emma is classically trained violinist and violist. Additionally, she can record cello and double bass.
Featured below are examples of Emma’s string recordings.

Orchestral

Orchestral strings offer heavy layering of 6 -10 recordings per part. I use different microphones and miking techniques here to reflect the style of what it is I am recording.

Chamber

Chamber strings offer light layering of 1 - 5 recordings per part.

String quartet

String quartet is only one recording per part. These recordings are done more close miced and intimate than in an orchestral setting, and I utilise more expressive playing. There isn’t an example below, however double bass could be added for a string quintet option.

Solo

These are all solo instrument recordings. With solo recordings, I get much closer to the mic and always record in a cardioid, directional pattern.

Emma Greenhill is an award-winning Australian composer, arranger, producer, and violinist with a passion for enhancing storytelling through music. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music in Composition (2017), Emma has developed a rich and diverse musical language that spans multiple genres.  As a classically trained violinist who also plays viola, cello, double bass, and piano, she emphasises live instrumentation in her work, crafting dynamic and emotive scores for projects of all sizes. In 2021, Emma won the APRA AMPCOS Madeby composition prize, the 2022 Young Composer Award, the 2017 Watermark composition prize and the “best original score” at the 2022 Made in the West film festival for the short Leopard (credit shared with composer Ali Zoghi) and was nominated for a 2024 Screen Music Award with The DA's Office for Masterchef season 16.
